On a bitterly cold boxing day the Mariners welcomed Accrington Stanley to Blundell Park. After 3 straight league defeats 3 points were the present all Town fans wanted and needed Dean Henderson replaced Macca in goal and Omar Bogle and Scott Vernon were the front two midfield of Bolawinra Comley Summerfield and Chambers and back 4 consisting of Andrew Davies Pearson and Collins. Scott Brown was in the Accrington side which also needed a result to pull themselves away from the relegation places In the first half there was not a great deal of quality shown from either side apart from in the 32nd minute when Bolawinra picked the ball up inside the centre circle drove at the defence and calmly finished into the bottom corner. The second half Town looked extremely disjointed at times with lots of stray passes and gifting possession back to the opposition. An assured performance from Henderson kept Town in front. The 2nd goal came 2 minutes from time when Bogle played in Chambers who outpaced the defence and finished through the keepers legs.Town saw out the remaining 2 minutes and the 5 minutes of stoppage time to take home the much needed 3 points. Town lie in 12th position 5 points from the play off places and more importantly. 8 points from the bottom 2. Collins had a solid game at the back and I was impressed with Comley breaking things up in the middle of the park but the debutant Henderson gets my man of the match. Also a mention about the referee Joyce who gave his usual terrible display. Onto Blackpool on Saturday and 3 points please and hopefully a better performance
