1979/80 Champions book launch dinner at McMenemy’s on April 9th starting 7.30pm
2020 is the 40 year anniversary of the last time a Grimsby Town team finished top of their league. The 1979/80 season was memorable not just for that but also for some fantastic cup games. All this has been captured by town fan Rob Mcilveen who has put together a fantastic book to commemorate what was probably our best post war season so far. We are holding a launch evening for the book at McMenemy’s on Thursday April 9th starting at 7.30pm which will include a 2 course meal and a Q & A session with many of the squad including captain Joe Waters. Tickets are just £15 and are available online to Mariners Trust members only until February 28th and after this date remaining tickets will go on general sale. In keeping with the era the dinner will have a 70’s feel with Chicken or Scampi and Chips basket meal followed by Lemon Meringue or Black Forest Gateau. We might also get the some Blue Nun or Liebfaumilch behind the bar!
The book itself will be A4 size with 240 pages full of memories covering in detail every match played that season culminating in the fantastic victory against Sheffield United to clinch top spot. The price of the book is £12.50 which is great value for such a substantial read but, even better, we are offering a combined deal of £25 for those attending the dinner which effectively makes the book just £10, a real bargain!
