Mariners Trust secretary Hannah Dawson has been elected to the board of a national fan’s group.
Hannah will represent Mariners supporters for the next three years on the Supporters Direct England and Wales Council.
She was elected following a ballot of supporter trusts across the country.
The 23-year-old – who replaced Dave Roberts as secretary of the Mariners Trust last year – will take up the role in the next few weeks.
Supporters Direct has been working since 2000 to help supporters gain influence in the running and ownership of their club. In the last 15 years they have helped members to establish over 185 trusts in the UK and we have worked with supporters to purchase and develop more than 50 community owned clubs.
The group also encourages supporter trusts to engage with their clubs and to connect local communities.
Hannah said: “I am extremely proud to have been elected to the Supporters Direct England & Wales council – particularly as I received some of the highest votes, enabling me to have a 3-year seat.
“As a young female, there has always been a mixed reception to my support of football, from both fans and non-fans. I hope to use this position to show people up and down the country that football isn’t just a male sport, and that females have more and more of a voice in it.
“Having supported Grimsby Town since birth, I have always wanted to do as much as I can for my beloved football club – which is why I joined the Mariners Trust initially. I work with an amazing group of people (both in the Trust and at the Club), and am hoping to promote the great work that we do to a broader audience.
“It will also be enjoyable to create connections with Supporter Trusts up and down the country, and learn about their innovative methods of fan engagement. Supporters Direct provides Trusts with such a great opportunity to learn from each other, and I’m very proud to now be a part of that.
“For anyone wanting to get more involved with their football team, I would recommend taking the steps that I have to work alongside your Supporter Trust, as I have learnt so much more than I could ever imagine, and I thoroughly enjoy being part of the connection between fans and the Club.”
