THE Mariners Trust is launching ‘Operation Promotion’ and calling on Grimsby Town fans to help boost Paul Hurst’s transfer kitty for next season.
After more than 200 people either joined or renewed their membership, the Trust has kicked off a new initiative to capitalise on the positive vibes around the club, in spite of the heart-breaking Play-Off Final defeat to Bristol Rovers at Wembley.
The Trust is hoping to raise £20,000 by inviting fans to pledge what they can, with all proceeds raised added into Hurst’s existing budget for the Mariners’ 2015/16 Conference assault.
The Mariners Trust has kick-started the campaign and will donate £5,000 to the fund.
What’s more, Grimsby Town-supporting Euromillions winners Lee and Susan Mullen have generously pledged to match the fans’ total with their own donation.
Grimsby Town fans across the world can make donations in exchange for a variety of money-can’t-buy Mariners experiences – including a squad number for next season, t-shirts, mugs and other items.
Trust chairman, Terry Rudrum, said: “This is the best Town team that’s been assembled in many years and people can see that. The response from the fans in the aftermath of Wembley has been incredible and we hope that their response to this initiative is equally as positive. This is the first initiative of Operation Promotion, with more to come in the future and we’re looking forward to seeing the response.”
Dave Roberts, Trust representative on Grimsby Town’s Board of Directors, added: “The wage budget has already been increased by well over 10 per cent in an effort to hold together most of the existing squad and fans will be delighted that nine players have already put pen to paper.
“Budget Boost will help towards signing one or two new, key additional players and help the Mariners promotion push for the 2015/16 season.”
