The Mariners Trust are delighted to announced completion of the mural around the entrance to the Family Fanzone. Commissioned as part of the Grimsby Creates programme that is funded as part of The Cultural Development Fund by Arts Council England, the ‘Paint The Town Proud’ heritage initiative is being delivered in collaboration with Creative Start CIC, The Culture House, Nomad Design and a number of local, national and international artists, community groups and commercial partners – celebrating local heritage through arts and culture.

Kristine Green, Chair of the Trust said: ‘It’s been fantastic to see the artwork develop over recent months. There is without doubt some real artistic talent within the Town and to have it utilised in this way at Blundell Park is an incredible thing.  It’s a real conversation piece that covers so many thoughts and memories for generations of Grimsby Town Supporters.’

Becky Darnell, Creative Support and Development at Culture House added: ‘Led by the Creative Start CIC team and talented artist Kevin Atkinson in partnership with The Mariners Trust, this dedicated mural is celebrating the clubs great sporting heritage within the town; featuring supporters scene and nostalgic legends wall. We were honoured to be able to create this artwork that now belongs to the fans. We hope that it sparks memories of some of the greatest moments in the clubs history, and those memories live on.’

This is just phase one of the mural, Creative Start are also working on a documentary and soundscape which will compliment the artwork and offer a nostalgic experience for the fans. There is also a podcast dedicated to everything Mariners related and can be found here:
