Mariners Trust launch Operation 3000
The Mariners Trust has today launched a brand new campaign aimed at boosting the number of Grimsby Town season ticket holders.
Operation 3000 is a joint initiative by the Trust and Grimsby Town FC in a bid to boost season ticket sales ahead of Town’s return to the Football League in August.
Following the success of last year’s Operation Promotion campaign – which raised such a fantastic amount for the promotion effort – the Trust and football club hope 3,000 Mariners fans will purchase season tickets before the big kick off on Saturday, 6 August.
This would be a big increase on last season’s sales which saw around 2,600 tickets snapped up.
As part of the scheme, the Trust is giving away a year’s membership to non-members who purchase season tickets and will run competitions and giveaways throughout the summer to supporters who promote the initiative.
Existing Trust members will be able to take part in exclusive competitions including the chance to have the cost of their season ticket refunded. Further details about this will be revealed later this week.
Terry Rudrum, Trust chairman, said: “We have heard from a number of supporters who have suggested we repeat last year’s fundraising which ended in such spectacular circumstances.
“Operation Promotion was very much a one-off campaign that captured the imagination of supporters at a difficult time. But it proved that when we all pull together we can achieve fantastic things and we hope all of those supporters will once again back the club and help us achieve our target.
“The more people who sign up for season tickets, the more money the club will have and the more attractive we may be for potential would-be signings.”
As part of the campaign supporters are urged to print out posters displaying details of season ticket sign-ups and tell friends and families about the plan using the hashtag #operation3k
Mr Rudrum added: “We all have friends and family members who were captivated by the club’s Wembley success and who celebrated promotion during the open top bus parade around the town. It would be fantastic if we could each encourage someone to either return to Blundell Park or become a new fan in time for our return to League 2.”
Grimsby Town’s accounts manager Steve Wraith said: “We really hope that everyone can get behind the Operation3000 initiative. We saw last year what can happen when everyone pulls together and if we can achieve the target of 3000 season ticket holders it will be the first time since 1999 making it the biggest take up this century.
“The 3000 target would give us a 13% increase on last season which in turn was a magnificent 26% up on the previous season. Our fans have been truly amazing and I am sure we will see that again this year.”
Season tickets go on sale next Monday (13 June) from the club shop or call 01472 605050.
