The Mariners Trust are delighted to confirm that the reconfiguration of the Lower Stand toilets is now complete.
Previously, the area around the toilets and turnstile area was cramped with queues for the men’s toilet, often ending on the stairs during match days – this was exacerbated with the increase in attendances.
Changes over the summer have seen a small extension to the stand built to accommodate new women’s toilets, increasing the number of cubicles from two to three. This has allowed the men’s toilet to be extended into the old women’s toilet, giving a second door to allow for a separate in/out system to help reduce the queuing around the area. In addition a new disabled toilet has now been created, to provide lower floor access to fans. This toilet has been made stoma friendly and has facilities for baby changing too.
The work has created a new entry/exit door to the male toilets from the bar and repurposed an existing door to allow the same for the female toilets. On matchdays these doors will be locked to allow access only from the corridor for male toilets or outside for the female toilets. When non matchday events are held in the Lower bar, the external doors will be locked to allow access to facilities directly from the bar.
Due to the change of access to the toilets we’ve had to move the entrance door – this is now slightly to the right of the previous door and includes a porchway area to help reduce impact of bad weather into the bar when supporters enter.
This has been no small project, one that certainly would have been far more difficult if it wasn’t for the number of supporters that have volunteered their time to come in and help with painting and other tasks.
We hope that these works will make a positive impact to the matchday of supporters and create an area that other would like to hire out for small events.
